Transient Analysis of the D-BMAP/G/1 Queue with an Application to the Dimensioning of a Playout Buffer for VBR Video

چکیده
In this paper the D-BMAP/G/1 queue is considered. The goal is to derive an explicit expression for the transform of the queueing delay of the nth arriving customer, based on a transient analysis. While deriving this transform, intermediate results such as an explicit expression for the transform of the probability of having an empty system at the nth departure, are also obtained. These results are then applied to the dimensioning of a playout buffer for variable bit rate video traffic.

A Virtual Queue Based Scheme To Support Real-Time Renegotiated VBR Video Streaming
Variable bit rate (VBR) video traffic poses a unique challenge on network resource allocation and management for future packet networks. RED-VBR, a renegotiated deterministic VBR scheme, is a well-known approach proposed to support delay-sensitive VBR video traffic. However, the original RED-VBR suffers some limitations, such as the difficulty of dimensioning of D-BIND traffic descriptors for r...

Video streaming applications over wireless networks have turned out to be immensely popular recently. In this thesis, we first study the buffering schemes for the VBR video streaming in heterogeneous wireless networks. An analytical framework is presented to derive the expected number of jitters and average buffering delay. Through experimenting with a wide range of buffering schemes, we quanti...

In this paper, we study the problem of power allocation for streaming multiple variable-bit-rate (VBR) videos in the downlink of a cellular network. We consider a deterministic model for VBR video traffic and finite playout buffer at the mobile users. The objective is to derive the optimal downlink power allocation for the VBR video sessions, such that the video data can be delivered in a timel...

In this paper, we investigate the problem of optimal power control for multiuser variable bit rate (VBR) video streaming in a cellular network with orthogonal channels. We adopt a deterministic model for VBR video traffic that incorporates video frame and playout buffer characteristics, and formulate a constrained stochastic optimization problem. We then develop a majorization-based solution ap...
